Sisters On a Journey......
Is a collection of paintings, drawings and collage done by three women (two of them cancer survivors) who began this art adventure together by meeting once a week to work side by side exploring different mediums and subject matter.
The journey of this trio (Beth Andrews, Tara Belk, and Marsha Holmes) began in 2007 in an effort to share ideas, encouragement, and expand their artistic "horizons" both personally and professionally.
For two years they shared techniques, encouragement, meals and their hearts, as their friendship and respect for one another deepened. On this journey they formed a nurturing atmosphere and helped each other over the rocky terrain of self-doubt, through valleys of procrastination, and across rivers of indecision. Always, spurring one another on while celebrating their successes together. .
They first exhibited together in Boone, May 2009, with a collection of 49 paintings called “3. Perspective” (Three Point Perspective). The collected works were the result of exploring the same subjects from each of their different points of view and with different media. The collection (which grew to 90+ paintings) was exhibited August and September 2009 at the Ashe Arts Center in West Jefferson, and in November at the Jailhouse Gallery in Morganton, N.C. "Sisters on a Journey - the Art of Sisterhood”, expands on this theme by showing their individuality and their personal creations of art harmonizing with the art of their "sisterhood".
“We have been privileged to explore our new horizons as artists and women with each other through brush, paper and pigment, as well as love and respect. The bond and relationship that developed during this time was very powerful both artistically and personally, in truth, we became sisters in spirit. As a result, each of us have experienced growth, new insights, and our work as individuals has been nurtured.”
”We feel this collection of work celebrates our unity and support of one another as artists, while it emphasizes our individuality.”
“ It has become our personal visual voices harmonizing in the singing of the same song.”
You are invited to taste the fruit of this heartfelt two-year sojourn.
